Riya’s Aid Solution

Riya reached out to the Iteration Lab with her personal project, Dyslex-Aid, a three-part software designed to assist students in overcoming learning challenges. The inspiration behind the project stemmed from her personal journey; after being advised to drop out of high school, she was only diagnosed with dyslexia in 2019. This experience fueled her commitment to creating solutions that support individuals facing similar struggles.

She visited the Iteration Lab and received feedback and milestones for her project. Her dashboard, featuring multiple functions such as diagnostics, accommodations, and assistive AI, was identified as complex due to its distinct sub-projects. The lab advised her to prioritize features and focus on a single development stream by determining the core functionality. Tasks included conducting detailed user research to understand the needs of the target audience, creating user personas, and collecting user stories. She was encouraged to identify and change entrenched ways of thinking about the project and remain flexible as the project evolved. She was advised to return once she had a detailed assessment of her audience and clarified the project’s core functionality to meet their most basic and essential needs.

Riya was extremely happy with the consultation outcomes, she found the shared problem solving and ideas about additional features that can benefit potential customers especially helpful. In her own words: “Dr. Barba and J.R have a unique perfective on things and helped me understand additional features that could be added to my software. They also helped me with my next steps.”
